President Preckwinkle toured Motorola Solutions in Schaumburg, Illinois with Motorola Solutions CEO Greg Brown on Tuesday, June 12, 2012.
The purpose of the visit was to give President Preckwinkle a tour of the Motorola Solutions campus, and let her know about their technology leadership, having been located in Cook County since 1928. This is the first time Motorola Solutions has ever had a visit from a County Board President. President Preckwinkle was joined by Herman Brewer, Bureau Chief, Bureau of Economic Development. The tour included a round table discussion with Motorola Solutions CEO Greg Brown and his chief executives. From there, the group visited Motorola Solutions Innovation Center. As the morning progressed, the group went to the actual area where the communications systems are assembled. Along the way, discussions occurred on the vital role Motorola Solutions has in using communications and technology for public safety, including Cook County.
Since 1928, Motorola Solutions, Inc. (formerly Motorola, Inc.) has been committed to innovation in communications and electronics. The company has achieved many milestones in its 84-year history. It pioneered mobile communications in the 1930s with car radios and public safety networks. It made the equipment that carried the first words from the moon in 1969. It commercialized the first handheld portable scanner in 1980. Today, as a global industry leader, excellence in innovation continues to shape the future of the Motorola Solutions brand.
Their worldwide headquarters has been located in Cook County since 1928. At first, they were located within the City of Chicago. However, in 1965 the company relocated to Schaumburg, Illinois remaining in the County. Motorola Solutions’ 2011 revenue was $8.2 billion.
Motorola Solutions is the 22nd largest publically held company in the Chicago region according to Crain’s. Businesses and government agencies around the world turn to Motorola Solutions innovations when they want highly connected teams that have the information they need throughout their workdays.
