On November 20, President Preckwinkle welcomed a delegation of 25 high-level government officials from Nanchang, China, hosted by WorldChicago, who were interested in gaining knowledge on economnic development and energy in the United States. The meeting, held at 69 W. Washington, 35th Floor, included a formal presentation by Herman Brewer, Bureau Chief, Bureau of Economic Development, on economic development and growth within Cook County. Laura Oakleaf, Legislative Liaison for the Department of Environment, spoke about energy initiatives. Other staff were present to respond to questions. After the formal presentations, a question and answer period followed on the strategies used to foster economic growth, energy and jobs within Cook County. The remarks, presentations and question/answer period were translated into Chinese.
At the conclusion of the gathering, Mr. He Rui Hu, District Mayor, Nanchang, China, offered President Preckwinkle and Herman Brewer a thank you gift, as is sometimes custom with international visitors. The exchange of ideas, goodwill and information was very helpful to all present.
