Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant
Cook County received a $12.6 million Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to provide assistance in the form of grants and low interest loans for suburban Cook County municipalities, businesses and residences. The Department of Environmental Control administers the program in partnership with the Bureau of Economic Development. The Cook County Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant supports the following activities as shown below:

- Energy Efficiency Retrofit Program
- NSP & Single Family Rehabilitation Program
- Local Government Energy Efficiency Initiatives
- Business & Residential Energy Efficiency Audits
- Energy Efficiency and Material Conservation – (Building Deconstruction- Recycling of Residential Components)
- Transportation Incentives Programs
- Revolving Loan Fund for Energy Efficiency Retrofitting
- Electronic Waste Collection Program
- Composting Program
- Highway Traffic Signal Retrofit Program
